Mid-Atlantic

Paving the Way for Changemakers

October 14, 2022

Understanding the needs of youth tennis players, and giving youth players a direct line to express themselves and provide input into how tennis in the Mid-Atlantic is organized is a critical component to creating high-quality youth sports programs. That is why USTA Mid-Atlantic is launching the Junior Player Council. We want to ask kids what they want in youth tennis programs and allow them the space to shape the future of tennis.

The Junior Player Council will serve as a collaborative advisory between USTA Mid-Atlantic and high school/collegiate tennis players. The council will be made up of active MAS players participating in at least one of the various Junior and College tennis programs such as Junior Team Tennis,Tournaments, Wheelchair, High School, Tennis on Campus, and NCAA programs.

The purpose of the Junior Player Council is to facilitate an open exchange of ideas and discourse on USTA MAS Youth Programs, while setting forth an opportunity for our Council Members to advocate for their fellow youth tennis peers and shape the direction of youth tennis programs and services in the Mid-Atlantic. Members of the Council will attend monthly meetings over a six month period, as well as work on projects between meetings. Serving on the Junior Player Council is a great opportunity to volunteer and demonstrate leadership skills. Plus, time served on the Council can be included on future college applications as well as resumes.

If you are 13 years old or older and the Junior Player Council sounds like an exciting opportunity for you, applications are now open and will remain open until November 22, 2022.

Are you a parent, coach, and/or a provider who has someone in mind that you believe would be a great fit for the Junior Player Council? You can nominate them! All nominations must be submitted to youthplay@mas.usta.com. If you are nominating please include contact information for the nominee’s parent/guardian so USTA Mid-Atlantic can contact them with the application directly.

If you have any questions about the USTA Mid-Atlantic Junior Player Council, please contact youthplay@mas.usta.com
