The 2022 JTT Sectionals took place in South Bend, Indiana, and USTA Midwest would just like to congratulate everyone on a fun-filled competition.

There was a photo booth, custom t-shirt vendor, Kona Ice and a Chick-fil-A delivery for lunch!

Teams put in a ton of tough work ahead of the Midwest Championships, including one team from Wisconsin. Team “Kohler” started its JTT season with one simple goal, “Give the kids more match play.”

Before JTT, most of the team’s athletes had never played together. They came from all over Sheboygan County in hopes of increasing their match play, establishing a win-together-lose-together mentality, and most importantly, to have fun!

Together, they were off to a good start but needed to work on overall strategy. “All of the kids were great listeners. They kept working on their games at Sportscore and after a few team matches, we really started to gel,” said Coach Michael Pellegrino.

“As we entered our final matches of the season… the kids knew every game counted,” Pellegrino said. “We ended up winning and advanced to our State Championships.”

“State was at our home courts, but we knew the competition would be tough,” explained Pellegrino. “Our first match was very close, but we focused on winning games. The kids were both excited and fatigued.” After several tight matches, someone told Pellegrino they only needed eight games total to win State. They won 11.

The kids, their parents and instructors were all thrilled as the team moved on to compete at the 2022 USTA Midwest JTT Sectionals. There, the team had an awesome time playing against athletes from other several states. “We didn’t get the results we hoped for, but I reminded the kids of our original goals. And I told them to think about the great and unexpected run they had over the past six months,” said Coach Pellegrino. “They all have great potential. Three of our girls just made the Kohler High School varsity tennis team as freshmen! I have no doubt each team member will have success in their future.”
