2024 National Tennis Month: A celebration of the world's healthiest sport
Nearly 100 tennis events took place across the Midwest to celebrate National Tennis Month! Throughout May, tennis providers from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin hosted parties to promote the sport. The celebrations were held at local courts, parks, neighborhood nets, schools and city-favorites such as Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. The goal: Let tennis thrive and reach new people who want to give it a try!
The USTA Chicago District, for example, supported 45+ events this year (some of the most sessions in the United States) many of them in partnership with non-profit organizations and the Chicago Park District. These events were free or low-cost and available for kids and adults of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Their May 19 event at Riis Park celebrated our country's new National Hit to be Fit Day with live music, a pizza food truck, Cardio Tennis and the 2023 Ace Awards Ceremony.
National Hit to Be Fit Day was a new initiative for facilities nationwide to introduce Adult Red Ball and Cardio Tennis Triples programming. The events demonstrated that tennis is an easy, social sport with proven health and wellness benefits. Our Adult Red Ball events taught beginners how to play in as little as 30 minutes, and at Cardio Tennis Triples, athletes could exercise through high-energy drills and adjustments on court.
Did we forget to mention that all attendees and organizers were entered into a raffle to win US Open tickets?!
Not to mention we had several state and city officials from Illinois, Wisconsin and Evansville, Indiana who issued official “proclamations” declaring May as National Tennis Month.

The Indianapolis International Airport played a big role in promoting tennis and National Tennis Month! The airport, which serves 9.7 million passengers a year, displayed our USTA Midwest advertisement to encourage travelers to play tennis and experience its many health and wellness benefits. The ad was played extensively from May 1-28.
National Tennis Month also received a special shoutout from the garages of Gasoline Alley! Indycar driver Conor Daly took part in a special video message alongside our USTA Midwest CEO, Chad Docktor, to promote May as National Tennis Month and the month for the greatest spectacle in racing—the Indianapolis 500.
We want to thank everyone who helped plan a National Tennis Month event. To our teaching pros/coaches, facilities, park & recs, CTAs, NJTLs and of course our districts, thank you! Your efforts are undoubtedly growing the game.
Our combined focus is always on our local communities; allowing players to celebrate the game alongside their family members, friends and neighbors. Tennis is for everyone.
The fun doesn't stop in May! Find more opportunities to play here. We hope that you'll continue to play and enjoy everything our sport has to offer.
