Here's how you can play Red Ball Tennis on your local courts

Molly Kinnick | September 04, 2025

Red Ball Tennis—a low-pressure version of the classic game—officially launched at the 2025 US Open. But tennis ambassadors from across the U.S. have been piloting the USTA product for more than a year, at breweries and tennis clubs as well as neighborhood courts and senior living facilities.

Here's what makes Red Ball Tennis (RBT) so easy to jump into: No formal courts, no strict rules, just high-energy play whenever and wherever you want. In other words, you can pick up Red Ball Tennis with your friends in little to no time at all.

With five years of consecutive growth for tennis, there are numerous programs to choose from. Our team of USTA Midwest Ambassadors plan Red Ball Tennis events across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin—and most are free to attend. Kim Taylor from Central Indiana organized Swingin' with the Oldies at an assisted living facility in New Palestine, Ind., and Jill Tsuji from Northern Illinois has offered multiple play days such as Jingle Tennis during the holidays, Moms in Motion throughout the school year, and many other pop-up events.

You can find similar events by visiting the Adult Social Tennis webpage for your district:
