For many of our Northern Indiana high school seniors, their final season was cut short. As our way of celebrating all of these wonderful players, we have gathered stories from across Northern Indiana to celebrate our amazing class of 2020! Congratulations on a great high school tennis career, we can't wait to see what's in store next.

Kat Borders, Saint Joseph High School

What will you miss most about high school tennis?

I will miss the long bus rides with my teammates and coaches, the overnight trips, and the amazing feeling I used to get after beating a really good team.

What are your plans for playing tennis after high school?

I will be rowing at Michigan State University next year!

What is your high school coach’s most memorable saying?

"No ROSES" (return of serve errors), and "winning is a habit, just like brushing your teeth".

What is one song that will always make you think of your high school tennis team?

Any High School Musical, Soulja Boy, or Migos song

What are you most proud of in your high school tennis career?

Making it to State my freshman and sophomore year. Also, going undefeated as a doubles team with Kate Bellia, my sophomore year.

What are your hobbies outside of tennis?

I love to play my guitar, sing, and do CrossFit.

Chloe Rafinski, Marian High School

What are your plans for playing tennis after high school?

I will be playing at IU South Bend on their team!

From Chloe:

I injured myself every season and never got a full season. I didn’t even get to play my junior season. My senior season was going to be my comeback after everything.

Ally Stuckey, DeKalb High School

What will you miss most about high school tennis?

I will miss the competitive nature that comes with every high school tennis match!

What are your hobbies outside of tennis?

My hobbies outside of tennis include golf, running, and basketball!

Did you prefer singles or doubles and why?

I prefer singles because I like having complete control of the court!

Do you have any superstitions on the tennis court?

One of my superstitions was to have a motivational talk with one of my favorite teammates Bethany Lancaster!

Jadyn Davis, Angola High School

What are your plans for playing tennis after high school?

After high school, I plan on playing for Trine University and majoring in Health/Physical Education.

What is your high school coach’s most memorable saying?

My coach’s most memorable saying is “Purple up!”

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I have received is “there is nothing and nobody standing in your way besides yourself.”

What are your hobbies outside of tennis?

Outside of tennis, I like to ride horses, barrel race, and do remodeling/construction.

Did you prefer singles or doubles and why?

Personally I prefer to play singles but if it means I get to play I don’t mind playing doubles.

Ashley Churchill, North Newton Jr Sr High School

What will you miss most about high school tennis?

I will miss the competition the most. I can play tennis for the rest of my life, but I will never be able to recreate the competition of high school tennis!

What are your plans for playing tennis after high school?

I plan to play tennis for the rest of my life! I will not be continuing my career in college, but I look forward to playing for recreation with my family and friends!

What is your high school coach’s most memorable saying?

My coach’s most memorable saying is less of a saying and more of a cough. He clears his throat, and you can hear it from five courts down. When anyone hears the cough, they know they are either in trouble or he wants their attention. No one will ever forget that cough!!

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I have ever received was to take one point at a time and don’t get too ahead of yourself. I have carried this into my everyday life, as I need to focus on one task and one day before getting too ahead of myself!

Did you prefer singles or doubles and why?

I prefer singles because I don’t have to worry about letting others down. I can focus entirely on putting my entire heart on the court every time I step out there.

Sydney Craig, Angola High School

What will you miss most about high school tennis?

Hanging out with my team. Especially our practices. We work hard, but we still have a lot of fun doing it and they are great girls.

What are you most proud of in your high school tennis career?

How I have progressed as a person and a player. My game has improved, but tennis has helped me find who I am. I am a better leader, friend, and teammate because of tennis. I'm proud of how it has shaped my life and who I am today.

What are your hobbies outside of tennis?

Tennis has pretty much been my life for the last four years, so I don't do that much. However, I hunt and have been in 4-H for the last ten years. I read a lot and spend time with my friends.

Did you prefer singles or doubles and why?

I definitely prefer singles. Doubles is fun with the right person, but singles is my thing. I like how it is just me and if I make a mistake it is all on me and I never have to worry about how a partner's mental game is going.

Do you have any superstitions on the tennis court?

Before every serve I have to wipe my hand on my shorts/skirt and spin my racquet. When I return I have to bring my racquet to my lips and then get into my ready position. There really isn't a reason other than it just helps me focus and center myself.

Kasey Kearby, Portage High School

What will you miss most about high school tennis?

I will miss everything. Playing doubles with one of my best friends, team bondings, bus rides, getting into the circle before a match, cheering my girls on, going home with a win, and the most important “move your feet”.

What one item do you have to have in your tennis bag no matter what?

The one item I will always carry in my bag is extra clothes. My coach always taught me to wear layers.

What is your high school coach’s most memorable saying?

My coach’s most memorable saying is “MOVE YOUR FEET”

What is one song that will always make you think of your high school tennis team?

It’s not really a song but more of a phase from a song, “Run it back” this phrase is what we would yell across the courts to cheer each other on.

What are you most proud of in your high school tennis career?

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve seen myself grow into a better tennis player and person because of this sport. Tennis has had such a great impact on my life and I’m grateful for the time I got to play in high school.

Maria Delis, Munster High School

What will you miss most about high school tennis?

I will miss the Girls the most because of the relationships I built throughout my tennis years and hopefully, I will keep those friendships forever.

What is your strength on the court? Weakness on the court?

My strength on the court is my confidence and backhand and my weakness is when I get into a weird funk with my serve.

What is your go-to shot on court?

Go-to shot on the court is and will always be my backhand.

Who is your favorite tennis player?

My favorite tennis player is Novak Djokovic because he finds a way to turn the match around even if it looks like he is going to lose and you can always see how hard he is working to win. I also appreciate his aggression like when he breaks his racket.

Do you have any superstitions on the tennis court?

Superstitions on the court is if I don't bounce the ball four times before serving I am going to double fault.
