Recap: 2025 USTA Missouri Valley Junior Team Tennis Section Championships
Ten teams representing three districts competed in the 2025 USTA Missouri Valley Junior Team Tennis Section Championships on July 15-16 at Edmond Center Court in central Oklahoma. Six 18U teams and four 14U squads battled for titles at Edmond Center Court, a USTA Premier Facility that hosted the event for the fourth year in a row.
Coming into 2025, USTA Oklahoma-based teams had been on an impressive run. JTT squads representing the district had captured championships in both the 18U and 14U divisions each of the previous three years.
The Genesis Greys from Wichita, Kansas broke that streak by winning 244 games to earn the 18U Championship. The Greys nipped 2024 champion, the Britton Christian Church Tennis Academy Bears, who finished with 235 games won. The 18U Championship division was extremely competitive, with the first-place team and fifth-place team separated by only 21 games.
In 14U Championship action, Vince Westbrook Tennis Academy @ TU edged the Britton Christian Church Tennis Academy Bobcats, 156-155. Both teams represented USTA Oklahoma, with the Vince Westbrook Tennis Academy based out of Tulsa and BCCTA located in Oklahoma City. Full results are listed at the end of this article.
A total of 93 players participated in the JTT Section Championships. Teams earned their spot in the event by placing first or second in a JTT Qualifier. Those were held earlier this year at Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park in Tulsa and Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City.
Teams also could qualify by winning their summer local league playoff/championship or by receiving a wild-card invite.
Teams participating in the JTT Section Championships were coordinated in the color of their choosing with the 2025 theme being ‘Color Wars.’ Edwardsville and Riverside Grand Slammers were selected as the 18U team spirit winners, while the BCCTA Bobcats were chosen as the 14U team spirit winners.
Sportsmanship awards were also doled out to one boy and one girl from each division. Ben Kendrick (Southern Hills Country Club) and Sydney Shoemaker (Riverside Grand Slammers) were the 18U winners. Graham Ridder (Genesis) and Isabelle Zhang (Genesis) were the 14U recipients.
The JTT Section Championships were officiated by Charlie Smith and Heather Lunsford. Edmond Center Court’s Bee Healthy Café provided smoothies to players and lunch for coaches, staff and officials. Tara Williams, USTA Missouri Valley senior manager, junior team play, headed up the event.
