Celebrating Girls and Women in Sports
National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a celebration that inspires girls and women to play, to be active, and to realize their full power, falls on February 5, 2020. There are many accomplished women in our section that deserve to be celebrated on this day, and every day.
The section has proudly supported dozens of junior female athletes as they continue to take their tennis game to new levels, excelling in junior tournaments and then on the college stage. Rock Island, Ill. native Madison Keys has earned great success in multiple Grand Slams, and her accomplishments have set a powerful example for the generations below her.
Six of the Presidents that have led the USTA Missouri Valley are women, including our current President Lisa Minihan. Many other women have made marked impacts in leadership roles for the USTA Missouri Valley as well, whether serving on staff, as a Chair, or on our Board of Directors.
Every feat that girls and women have accomplished in our section, whether on or off the court, continue to have a lasting, inspiring effect on the girls and women in sports around them.
Our admiration of all of the inspiring, strong girls and women within the USTA Missouri Valley couldn’t possibly be whittled down to merely one day—so we’ll be celebrating them all week. Keep watch on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and as we honor girls and women in sports across our section all week long.
