Former Washington University in St. Louis Player Wins US Gay Open

June 27, 2022

Pride Month kicked off in a big way out in San Francisco over Memorial Day weekend. The United States Gay Open returned for the first time in three years. This was the 40th playing of one of the longest-running LGBTQ+ tournament in the world and it was extra special for one former Washington University in St. Louis player.

Tim Noack, a 2014 graduate of Washington University, was the Men’s Open singles champion. Originally from Wisconsin where he posted a career 116-12 record, Noack played all four years on Washington University’s tennis team.

He capped off his collegiate career by being named team captain his senior year and finishing with an overall record of 21-11, including an 18-8 mark in singles. That record included an impressive 11-match winning streak.

Noack said he enjoyed the experience more than he expected and loved the feeling of playing in the finals with everyone cheering. He has always loved tennis and this result is sure to only enhance that love.

The United States Gay Open is one of more than 70 tournaments in the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance’s world tour. The tour has been running tournaments for the LGBTQ+ community since 1991. 150 players attended this year’s event after the COVID-19 pandemic deprived them of this wonderful opportunity.
