Q&A with Air Force commit Mithila Dixit
Check out our Q&A with Mithila Dixit, a USTA Heart of America standout junior competitor. Dixit—who has verbally committed to attend the United States Air Force—recently competed in the prestigious and long-running USTA Missouri Valley Rally in the Valley Championships (formally named Sweet 16).
Dixit partnered with USTA Heart of America’s Sydney Fuger to earn a second-place finish in Girls’ 18s doubles. Fuger has likewise committed to attend a service academy in the United States Naval Academy. In Girls’ 18 & Under singles action, Dixit won her first two matches in straight sets before falling in the semifinals to the eventual tournament champion. She bounced back with a straight-set victory to capture third place overall.
The Level 3 closed Rally in the Valley took place June 13-16 in Edmond, Okla. and featured many of the top junior girls’ and boys’ competitors from the USTA Missouri Valley. For a full recap of the Rally in the Valley Championships, click here.
Where are you from?
I’m from Kansas City, Kan.
Where do you train?
I train at the Overland Park Racquet Club. I train with a lot of pros, but mostly Eric Rand and Elliott McDermed.
Is this your first closed L3 (Rally in the Valley)?
My first one was probably 2019, and I have played them since then.
What do you think about the Rally in the Valley?
I think it’s really cool. It’s obvious that there’s been a lot of effort made to make it more fun and exciting for players.
Best tennis memory?
Just like going to get food with my parents. Honestly, the post-match dinners are always my favorite memory. I can almost always remember where we went to dinner after every tournament.
Favorite thing about tennis?
I like competing. Not only just tennis—I just love competition and how tennis trains me to compete in life.
Do you have a specific Rally in the Valley (Sweet 16) memory?
Yeah, the very first Sweet 16 I played in. I think it was in Springfield, Mo. I remember I was around 12 years old, and all the older kids in my academy were there. I played six or seven matches, and it was really fun.
Do you like the compass-draw format?
Yeah, I do. I think it is good to get a lot of matches in.
What is your standout accomplishment?
For tennis, definitely indoor nationals; getting to the quarterfinals in doubles. And in hard court (San Diego) and clay (Alabama), we got to the fourth round in doubles. The San Diego tournament is just special.
Do you plan to play college tennis?
Yes, I verbally committed to Air Force. It’s really exciting. I’m really excited about the Air Force education and tennis team.
Do you know what you want to study?
I’m wanting to study economics and psychology.
