SuperSport Campaign: Sportsmanship alive and well in USTA Heart of America

Sydney Hamilton | May 06, 2024

The USTA Missouri Valley’s SuperSport sportsmanship initiative aims to recognize players of all ages and skill levels who display exemplary sportsmanship. The program rewards these individuals with prizes in an effort to create a positive and inclusive player experience.

Players can be nominated by their peers, coaches, tournament staff and spectators through Dec. 31, 2024 to be entered to win prizes. That includes the grand prize of US Open ground pass tickets for two as well as airfare, a hotel grant and a US Open store gift card.

Three players in USTA Heart of America have already been named SuperSport winners. Riley Terhune from Overland Park, Kan. was nominated for her outstanding display of sportsmanship in the month of January. Kynsey Smith from Kansas City, Mo. earned SuperSport recognition during February/March. And Scarlett Gates from Kansas City, Mo. was named a SuperSport winner during March/April.

Smith’s nominator had this to say about her sportsmanship: “Kynsey is the perfect player and candidate for sportsmanship. She is so mature on court. I heard multiple parents during matches comment that when they talk to their own child about what good looks like, they use Kynsey as the example.”

If you’d like to nominate great sports like Terhune, Smith and Gates, you can do so by downloading the free Match Tennis app from the Apple Store or Google Play store and creating an account. Once you’re in, follow the instructions provided in this link to make your nomination.
