2024 Iowa Girls State Tennis Championships

The best girls’ tennis players in Iowa showed off their talents at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) State Tennis Tournament on May 24-25. Girls in Class 1A played in Iowa City, while competitors in Class 2A played in Johnston.

 

At the 2A championships, Cedar Rapids Washington senior Katelyn Kock beat Lily Holland of Cedar Rapids Jefferson 6-1, 6-0 for the state title. In doubles, Dowling Catholic's Grace Frye and Juju Mauro battled Allie Christensen and Lauren Hendrickson of Johnston to win the state championship (2-6, 6-3, 6-3).

 

In Class 2A team play, Dowling Catholic was crowned champion, as Valley finished second and Iowa City West placed third.

 

At the 1A tournament in Iowa City, freshman Gabi Fleming of Cedar Rapids Xavier defeated Kate Holton of Waterloo's Columbus Catholic in straight sets (7-6, 6-1) to become the second singles titleholder in program history. Central DeWitt’s Brooke Bloom/Isabelle Pierce defeated the top-seeded Osage duo of Kendall Olson/Kaitlyn Olson 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, to clinch their first state title.

Pella captured the 2A team championship with Xavier coming in second place and Spencer claiming third.
