Matches and memories made in USTA Iowa’s Junior Team Tennis local league
Junior Team Tennis (JTT) is an opportunity for young players to experience a fun and competitive team tennis environment while also cheering on teammates and gaining valuable matchplay experience.
Teams are divided into 18 & Under and 14 & Under gender-neutral divisions, with each team consisting of a minimum of five players.
Each weekly event consists of one singles match and two doubles matches against teams in each division, with each match two out of three sets. Total games won decides the winning team each week.
Within USTA Iowa in Des Moines, Mike Conlon coached three teams this summer—two teams in 18U and one team in 14U—over a five-week period.
“We had a great time this summer competing against teams from Johnston as well as Life Time Fitness,” Conlon said. “This event is great for intermediate-level players and those hoping to move from junior varsity to varsity roles on their high school teams.”
In addition, sportsmanship awards were given to Mason Froehle and Auluc Huynh in the 14U division and Kirsten Matthew and Adrienne Johnson in the 18U division.
This was the second summer the Junior Team Tennis local league ran in USTA Iowa, and there was a JTT fall league as well. To learn more about JTT, click here.
