Rising stars battle for top honors at Wichita Tennis Open
The annual Wichita Tennis Open has become quite the draw for the City of Wichita thanks to can’t-miss performances from USTA Pro Circuit players, thoughtfully curated events that are fun for the whole family and the popular Kids’ Day hosted by USTA Kansas and the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation.
This year’s tournament, which took place June 9-16 for men and June 16-23 for women, continued the tradition with high-octane match play in both singles and doubles and a $25,000 cash prize on the line.
In the men’s singles event, University of Texas teammates Micah Braswell and Eliot Spizzirri faced off in the championship, with Braswell securing a 6-4, 6-3 victory. In the women’s singles tournament, Canadian Cadence Brace topped American Victoria Hu to claim the championship.
In men’s doubles, the second-seeded team of Pranav Kumar (USA) and Joshua Sheehy (USA) defeated Cleeve Harper (Canada) and Eliot Spizzirri (USA) 6-7(4), 6-3, 10-8. In women’s doubles action, Linana Herrero (Spain) and Melany Solange Krywoj (Argentina) defeated Ashton Bowers (USA) and Sophia Webster (USA) 6-3, 6-3.
On June 18, representatives from USTA Kansas joined the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation to once again host the Kids’ Day event. During the event, children participated in drills and other tennis-related activities led by Wichita State University Head Coach Colin Foster before grabbing food and drinks, and then heading to the main courts to watch the pros play.
On June 19, a wheelchair tennis demo took place to highlight the skills of some of the top wheelchair tennis players in the nation. USTA Kansas is proud to participate in the Wichita Tennis Open each year, and we love being a part of such a dedicated tennis community. Thanks to all who participated and attended this year’s tournament.
