Tim Swope, Sarah Craig-Swope find perfect match on the tennis court
We all know tennis brings people together, be it friends, family or more. For Tim Swope and Sarah Craig-Swope, weekly tennis drills at their club in Topeka were the catalyst for their connection.
The couple has been married for five years now and continues to make tennis a centerpiece of their relationship.
Both Tim and Sarah have played tennis for most of their lives. She won a state title in doubles in high school, while he also played the sport in high school. They each took off several years to focus on raising their children.
They found their way back to the courts eventually — and to each other.
The couple now takes every opportunity to play tennis together. They compete in USTA mixed leagues and have played in 10 tournaments together. It has only made their relationship stronger.
“We play together whenever we get a chance,” Tim said. “Communication on the court and off the court is what we work on continuously. We’re convinced that our on-court partnership is the direct result of how we communicate on a daily basis.”
The duo recently competed in the Level 1 USTA National Husband-Wife Championships on Aug. 7-9 at Overland Park Racquet Club in Kansas.
They placed third in the 120 & Over combined competition. They also competed in the 2025 tournament at OPRC, placing second in the 120 & Over division.
They hope to keep playing while also taking some time for much-needed rest and relaxation.
“We plan on playing together as much as possible in the future,” Tim said. “We have a vacation home in Florida and have joined local tennis teams there. We hope to spend more time there in the winter and get more opportunities to play on clay courts.”
