Jayhawk Adult Open Serves up Hot Competition at Kossover Park

Sydney Hamilton | June 07, 2023

The ever-popular MoKanNeb Adult Tournament Series kicked off last month with the Omaha Memorial Day Open, and just wrapped up the second tournament in the series! The Jayhawk Adult Open took place June 2-4 at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, and the competition just keeps getting more fierce.

While the Jayhawk Open is open to players rated 3.0 and up, only Open-level players who win their draws in Men’s or Women’s singles or Mixed doubles will be eligible for $500 in prize money as part of their participation in the MoKanNeb series. Players must also compete in three of the four tournaments of the series to be eligible.

The tournament kicked off on Friday, June 2, with Men’s Open singles, followed by the women’s competition. Nam Pham successfully battled for the top spot in the men’s competition in a competitive three-set match, while Tina-Ya Hsu took home top honors for the women, also in a tight three-set battle. The Open Doubles competition saw the team of Branden Joost and Zinovii Nahirniak bring it home for the men. The team of Kyle Taylor and Maria Titova also won first place in the Mixed Doubles draw.

Later this month is the third tournament in the series, the HOA Kansas City Open, which takes place at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City June 23-25. Keep an eye out for next month’s newsletter for a recap of that tournament.
