Juneteenth Tennis Celebration to Take Place at McAdams Park June 20
Warm weather, fun programs, and, of course, tennis–it’s what’s going to take place in Wichita to honor Juneteenth in 2023! Juneteenth is a federal holiday that celebrates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, thereby helping free the last enslaved Black Americans.
From June 16 to June 19, the JuneteenthICT celebration will bring live music, the 3rd Annual Carl Brewer Cookoff, the 4th Annual Wichita Athletics Track Club Jubilee two-mile walk/run, a parade, a Kids’ Corner, public speakers, theatre productions and a whole lot more to McAdams Park. Vendors and food trucks will also be on site all four days!
Then, on June 20, in partnership with the McAdams National Junior Tennis & Learning Center, there will be a special tennis event taking place on the courts of McAdams Park. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., gather with the community for tennis games, drills, and some friendly competition, with music as the soundtrack for all the fun. Prizes will be up for grabs, and food and refreshments will also be available for all participants! This free, family-friendly tennis event is sure to be fun for all, and could serve as a great way to introduce the community to the sport and tennis services available in Wichita.
