Kids on the Court: Upcoming Smashers Tournaments
Smashers tournaments provide an opportunity for kids 10 and under to find themselves in the game through fun competition.
These events are designed to be as kid-friendly as possible with features such as special balls that are easier to hit, smaller tennis racquets and shorter courts. These attributes make it easier for kids to start developing competitive skills while still enjoying the game.
As we begin to move players back onto the courts, facilities and tournament directors are working to keep everyone safe through virus precautions. The first Smashers tournament was held on June 13 at Wall Park in McPherson. The directors encouraged social distancing between players, as well as family members on the sidelines. They minimized the touching of surfaces, encouraged children to bring their own water bottles and provided hand sanitizer.
Although each tournament may be run differently, depending on the facility and director, we are continuing to take precautions during this time.
