He’s just a really good kid. He’s quiet but very respectful. He looks you in the eye when you’re talking to him. Joseph is well-liked by the other kids. He’s one of those personalities where he’s a chameleon. He fits in with anybody.”

“I always tell our athletes who get the sportsmanship award it is — in my opinion — the most important award because it represents and is a reflection of your character,” Wartick said. “Under pressure is whenever people’s true colors come out. You’re showing good character in a way other people notice.

“That kind of filters down to where the youngsters underneath see him compete. They see how he acts and presents himself on the tennis court in high-pressure situations. Joseph is an excellent role model for the young guys and has just outstanding character. We’re really proud of him.”
