Winter Mixed Tri-Level League Back by Popular Demand
After a successful inaugural season a year ago, USTA Missouri’s winter Mixed Tri-Level League returns for its second year indoors at Springfield’s Cooper Tennis Complex. The six-week flex league will take place on Sundays in either the mid-afternoon or early evening.
The winter league begins on January 29, 2023 at Cooper. Players should fill out this form by January 20 if they're interested in playing on a team.
Echols encouraged individuals interested in participating in the league or putting together a team for it to contact her. She can be reached at ustamissouridirector@gmail.com. Echols added if other pockets of the district would like to explore creating a similar flex league in their hometown, they can get in touch with Amy Mathew, USTA Missouri interim adult league coordinator. She can be reached at 630-272-8022.
The winter Mixed Tri-Level League is a non-advancing offering, so there is flexibility in how the league can be structured. Last year, the winter league featured a 3.0 court, a 3.5 court and a 4.0 court. Echols noted the indoor league is a wonderful option to help players shake off any rust and prepare them for USTA Missouri’s spring league season.
“It is a great opportunity to learn about the tri-level format in a competitive setting but without the pressure of trying to advance to sectionals,” Echols said. “It’s also a good way to get to know players at different levels. Since participants can play up one level, oftentimes there are opportunities for a 3.0 player to play up on a 3.5 court with a stronger partner. You just get that exposure to what a 3.5 court plays like."
“It’s a really good development opportunity for players. It’s also fun for community building since you have players of different levels who get to be on the same team.”
