Lincoln welcomes back ITF pro women’s tennis event this November
Tennis fans in Nebraska will get another opportunity to watch top professional players in their own backyard. Once again, the Lincoln PRO Women’s Tennis Open will feature players competing from Nov. 3-9 at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center, home of the Huskers’ tennis programs.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) W15 tournament will feature top athletes participating in singles and doubles over the course of the week. The USTA Pro Circuit event with a prize pool of $15,000 is free for all spectators.
“I believe this is a great opportunity to see some of the best players from the U.S. and the world compete in our own backyard,” said German Dalmagro, head coach of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln women’s tennis team and one of the event’s organizers. “We get to watch some of the future stars of tomorrow early in their careers. Some day if some players make it to the top of the pro rankings, we hope people will remember them from playing the event here in Lincoln.”
Dalmagro said this is the only event in the state to watch professional women’s tennis. He hopes the Lincoln PRO Women’s Tennis Open continues to grow and is thankful to the sponsors who made the event possible for the second year in a row.
“We are looking to make it a yearly event that grows in fan support and the caliber of players participating,” he said. “We love the community support and how they rally behind women’s tennis. The more we can promote this event, the more fans can come watch.”
