Jackson Withrow Joins Husker Tennis

Omaha native and current professional tennis player Jackson Withrow is the new volunteer assistant coach for the Husker men’s tennis team. He hopes to pass on his knowledge to the Husker players when he’s not on the pro circuit.

“My role as volunteer coach will continue whenever I’m in town between tournaments,” Withrow said. “I’m hoping to bring my experience from the tour to the team and build off the foundation Coach Maymi and Coach Boysen have laid down. I’ll still be traveling full time but hope to help as much as I can once the spring season starts.”

Withrow was a three-year state champion at Burke High School and graduated in 2011. He went on to play at Texas A&M and has played professional tennis since 2016. He frequently partners with fellow Nebraska native, Jack Sock. The duo upset the Bryan Brothers in 2018 at the Delray Beach Open and went on to win the tournament.

“Jack and I have known each other since we were 8-9 years old, grew up training and playing against each other,” he recalled. “We didn’t start playing doubles until I started playing pro.”

Withrow said he is excited about the potential of the Huskers with head coach Sean Maymi and assistant coach Tom Boysen, who both took over the team in 2018. He hopes to help them elevate their level of tennis.

“I think the investment the athletic department has put into the tennis program, it has become a place with untapped potential,” he said. “I believe the coaches in place are the guys to make that happen and it’s the main reason why I wanted to join. I think with my skill set and experience, it will relate well with the guys as I’ve been in their shoes and want to see them succeed.”

Withrow added that though things are unpredictable on the tour during the pandemic, he’s fortunate enough to have the best of both worlds in professional and collegiate tennis.

Keep up with the University of Nebraska tennis team.
