Johnson Creating New Programming at Genesis

Andrea Gallagher | March 19, 2021

Originally from Minnesota, Mike Johnson hopes to take his experience in the Twin Cities, Michigan and Wisconsin and apply it to his new role as Tennis Director at Genesis Health Clubs of Omaha.

“This job has always been about bringing people together,” Johnson said. “I love tennis and tennis has this amazing power to create friendships and change lives. For what is considered to be an individual sport, tennis is all about the community.”

Omaha isn’t new to Johnson as he attended Creighton University in the early 1990s. He’s glad to be back and hopes to add more life into the tennis scene in the local community.

“I really think Omaha is ready for some fresh tennis,” he said. “Genesis actually bought the Westroads location and put tennis back into the facility. I want to create something that is above your expectations, and I want the club to feel like home. “

Among some of those changes, Johnson said they are implementing a brand new junior program that will begin this spring. That will include a new placement system; parent conferences; goal setting; technical & tactical training; strength and conditioning and more. The club also has new adult options including leagues, drills, World Team Tennis and social events.

“The goal is to deliver a member experience that is second to none,” he added. “Anyone and everyone is welcome to a free assessment at Genesis with a staff member or myself.  From the beginner to the experienced player, you are all welcome here.”
