Nebraska Senior Games this summer in Kearney

Andrea Gallagher | April 11, 2024

If you’re 50 years of age or older, mark your calendars for Aug. 1-3 and sign up for the 2024 Nebraska Senior Games. The tennis events will be held at the new state-of-the-art Ernest Grundy Tennis Center, which is located at 1930 University Drive in Kearney.

“Competitors 50 and older will compete with peers in five-year age divisions,” said Michael Martin, chairman of the USTA Missouri Valley Community Play Committee. “This will be a great option for senior tennis players in a fantastic facility. The 2024 events will also be qualifying opportunities for the National Senior Games to be held in Des Moines in 2025.”

In order to qualify for the 2025 National Senior Games, individuals must first compete in a State Senior Games in 2024.

The top four finishers in each age division/event at the 2024 Nebraska Senior Games qualify to play in the National Senior Games next year. Participants qualify as singles, doubles or mixed doubles players. In doubles, competitors have the ability to play with a different qualified partner in the National Senior Games.

“Competition never gets old!” said Kiane Davidson, recreation director for Kearney Parks & Recreation. “We encourage all levels of play to join. By participating in the Nebraska Senior Games you will compete against new players and make new friendships.”

The registration fee is $25 if paid by June 30 and $30 by July 15. Included with the registration fee is a commemorative T-shirt, goodie bag and first event fee. Each additional event is $2. There is also an evening social event at the Trails and Rails Museum, 710 W. 11th St., on Friday, Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
