Congratulations to the Oklahoma's Sportsmanship Winners

Casey McKenzie | April 28, 2023

Congratulations to Oklahoma players, JohnPaul Huston, Scarlett Milner, and Truman Prather for being selected as the 1st Quarter Junior Sportsmanship Award Winners by USTA Missouri Valley. While Scarlett was nominated by one of her peers, JohnPaul and Truman were nominated by Mallory Weber, the tournament director and USTA Missouri President. This is a testament to the positive impact they are making on the court. The following comments are from each individual’s nomination.

Truman Prather: Mallory Weber, the USTA Missouri President and a tournament director at Cooper, made the following comment regarding Truman:

"Truman was respectful every time he came to the tournament desk. What stood out is I was picking up trash and getting the room back together at the end of the day. There were parents and other players still in the room, and Truman came up and asked if I needed any help throwing away trash or picking it up. That was very impressive for someone of his age to even offer."

JohnPaul Huston: Mallory Weber, the USTA Missouri President and a tournament director at Cooper, made the following comment regarding JohnPaul:

"JP was also very respectful when he came to the tournament desk. When he was playing his 3rd place match (which he was losing), the referee overruled his opponent. JP was standing where he could see where his shot landed better than the official and politely told the official that he missed his shot and gave the point to his opponent.."

Scarlett Milner: Scarlett was nominated by one of her opponents, who shared the following:

"A great sport while playing, and I got injured. This player wasn’t worried about winning, it felt as though they felt about my health and I thought more players like her should be recognized."

It's always nice to see young athletes being recognized not only for their athletic abilities but also for their sportsmanship and positive attitude on and off the court. USTA Oklahoma hopes this achievement inspires them to continue to be good examples for others and to pursue their athletic goals with passion and dedication.

Recognizing good sportsmanship is important, and celebrates athletes who embody the values of fair play and respect. Please take a moment to nominate your peers or players for displaying good sportsmanship on and off the tennis court. By doing so, you not only increase their chances of winning an Amazon gift card but also help promote a positive and respectful culture within the tennis community.
