Building better courts: Grants strengthen facilities, including Edmond Center Court
Every July, National Park and Recreation Month celebrates the parks, facilities and community spaces that bring people together. For tennis players across Oklahoma, local parks are more than just places to play — they’re where beginners pick up a racquet for the first time, families stay active together and lifelong friendships are formed.
The USTA partners with communities across Oklahoma to help ensure public tennis facilities remain safe, welcoming and accessible for everyone. Through grants from USTA National, USTA Missouri Valley and USTA Oklahoma, local facilities can improve courts, expand programming and create more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game.
One recent example is Edmond Center Court, a USTA Premier Facility recognized for its commitment to providing exceptional tennis programming, quality courts and outstanding customer service. As one of only a select number nationwide to earn the USTA Premier Facility designation, Edmond Center Court exemplifies high standards that help grow tennis and create positive experiences for players.
Supporting facilities like Edmond Center Court is a key part of USTA Tennis Venue Services, which provides expertise, resources and funding to help communities build, maintain and enhance tennis facilities.
From court construction and resurfacing to strategic planning and facility development, Tennis Venue Services works with parks departments, municipalities, schools and tennis providers to ensure courts remain vibrant community assets for generations to come.
Through Tennis Venue Services, Edmond Center Court recently received a $47,800 USTA National Facility Assistance Grant to improve its courts, along with a $4,000 USTA Missouri Valley grant to help resurface six tennis courts. These investments will enhance the playing experience for thousands of players.

“We are incredibly grateful to USTA and USTA Missouri Valley for their continued support at our facility,” said David Minihan, general manager of Edmond Center Court. “This grant to resurface six courts ensures we can continue providing a first-class facility for thousands of players of all ages and abilities while supporting the continued growth of the game in our community.”
Facility grants like these help communities preserve existing courts, improve safety and create inviting spaces that encourage healthy lifestyles and lifelong participation in tennis. Whether supporting resurfacing projects, lighting improvements, fencing, accessibility upgrades or other capital enhancements, these investments strengthen local park and recreation systems across Oklahoma.
In addition to national and section-level funding, USTA Oklahoma offers grant opportunities that help communities grow the game at the local level. By partnering with parks and recreation departments, municipalities, schools and tennis organizations, USTA Oklahoma continues to invest in facilities that serve as gathering places for recreation, competition and community connection.
As we celebrate Park and Recreation Month, we recognize the dedicated parks professionals, volunteers and community leaders who make these spaces possible. Their commitment, and the partnerships that support them, ensure public tennis facilities remain welcoming places where everyone can experience the physical, social and lifelong benefits of the sport.
Together, we’re building stronger communities, one court at a time.
