Official Appreciation Week: Celebrating Excellence, Becky Riggs

Casey McKenzie | November 04, 2023

In the world of sports, there are those who are not in the spotlight but play an indispensable role in ensuring the integrity and fairness of the game. Becky Riggs, one of our very own, is a prime example of such individuals, and this week, we have the honor of highlighting her remarkable achievements as she shines as the USTA Oklahoma and USTA Missouri Valley Official of the Year.

Becky Riggs' journey in the world of tennis officiating is marked by her passion for the sport and her commitment to ensuring fair play on the court. Over the years, Becky has consistently demonstrated her expertise and professionalism at various USTA events, including Junior Team Tennis, Adult Sectionals, and Nationals.

One of Becky's most commendable qualities is her versatility and willingness to officiate matches at all levels of competition. From local L6 events in Tulsa to national tournaments like the Girls National 16s & 18s at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.

Becky's dedication to officiating extends beyond the matches themselves. Her interactions with players, parents, coaches, and tournament organizers have consistently exemplified the professionalism and sportsmanship that are hallmarks of a great official. Becky Riggs' impressive officiating career has also taken her to the collegiate level, where she has worked college matches, including ITA championships.

The USTA's commitment to developing tennis players through a grassroots pathway is well-known, and Becky's dedication to officiating aligns perfectly with this philosophy. She embodies the spirit of grassroots tennis, and her contributions as an official have played a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and quality of tennis events.
