2020 Smashers Tournaments in St. Louis

Jamie Hansen | March 19, 2020

Youth players 10 and under can get into the game with Smashers! Smashers tournaments let kids compete in tennis with modified equipment — red, orange and green tennis balls allow participants to continue to develop the fundamentals — all while having fun in a tournament format! In addition to modified tennis balls, reduced court and net sizes help players better cover the court.

There are two Smashers tournaments per month in the St. Louis area, so it is easy to get your kids on the court. Here is a complete list of tournaments for 2020.

(03/19/2020: Some of these event have been postponed to a later date in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Read the USTA's full statement here and check back for updates.)

Players have a chance at each tournament to earn stars and trophies.  Once they earn 20 stars or trophies, they can advance to the next level! With the Smashers program, youth can develop their game and move from beginner to advanced-level players.  Smashers is a great way to help kids build confidence in their play! The biggest draw: fun!

There are two types of Smashers tournaments: orange and green ball.  Orange ball tournaments are for ages 7-10, played on a 60-foot court with orange low compression balls. The green ball tournaments are also for youth aged 7-10, but tournaments use a 78-foot court with green dot low compression balls.

Matches for both green and orange ball tournaments are best of three sets, but are four-game short sets – meaning the first player to win four games by a margin of one game wins that match. There is no-ad scoring and in lieu of a third set, a seven-point tiebreak commences. Tournament draws will be a non-elimination format, such as a compass draw or round robin. Timed matches are not allowed.
