From good sports to Grand Slam: Goldapp, Tang earn US Open SuperSport trip

Josh Sellmeyer | March 12, 2026

Brandi Goldapp and Teddy Tang will be headed to the US Open in New York City this summer courtesy of their standout sportsmanship.

Goldapp—an adult competitor from Omaha, Neb.—and Tang—a junior player from Springfield, Mo.—are the USTA Missouri Valley SuperSport grand prize winners. Goldapp and Tang were the adult and junior to receive the most sportsmanship nominations on the Match Tennis App in 2025.

As a result, both individuals earned a prize package of 2026 US Open ground-pass tickets for two, $800 in airfare, a $500 hotel grant and a $30 gift card to the US Open shop.

“I don’t even know that there’s words for this,” Goldapp said. “Tennis is such a fabulous sport. And when you’re out on the court, it’s competitive. But the fact that good attitude and fun play has paid off.”

“It means a lot to me that I was nominated by so many players, refs, directors and other participants and parents,” Tang said. “I really enjoy all my time on the court. No matter win or loss, I always try my best.”

Goldapp was shocked with the SuperSport grand-prize news at Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center in Omaha. Several of her USTA Nebraska league friends were on hand to congratulate her.

“I have been to the US Open, but never paid for. I am shaking right now,” she said. “I’m like, what month is it? Is it time? I can’t wait. It will be amazing.

"Thank you so much to USTA and the people who nominated me. When your peers choose you, that says the world to me. That means the world to me. So, thank you.”

Tang was surprised with the news as well. He hasn’t attended the US Open before and has long dreamed of the opportunity to do so. He said he’s excited to watch and learn from the world’s best players.

“This reward feels like a step forward in my tennis journey and brings great confidence in my future as a tennis player,” Tang said. “I am super excited that others noticed me when I am on the court. I always try to keep myself calm and focus on each swing and point.”

Tang said Rafael Nadal—well known for his legendary effort and exemplary sportsmanship—is his tennis idol and inspiration.

“I learn from him, keep calm, focus on my points, (be) nice, keep good manners on and off the court, and my racquet is my friend,” Tang said.

Goldapp said she makes a concerted effort to show good sportsmanship on the court.

“Obviously you try to make good line calls, you try to congratulate them on good shots, you smile,” she said. “Tennis is competitive, but tennis is fun. And if you can’t have fun on the court, then what’s the point of playing?”

In addition to Goldapp and Tang’s recognition, Rebecca Falkner Axelrod received $50 to the USTA Missouri Valley online store for being both the tournament director and official to submit the most SuperSport nominations.

The 2026 SuperSport campaign is already underway. From Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, the adult player and junior player with the most nominations through the Match Tennis App will earn a grand-prize package for two to attend the 2027 US Open. Learn more here.
