Five organizations in USTA Missouri Valley receive wheelchair tennis grants
The United States Tennis Association recently awarded more than $100,000 in USTA Wheelchair Tennis Grassroots Grants to 44 wheelchair tennis programs across the U.S.
These five organizations within the USTA Missouri Valley received a USTA Wheelchair Tennis Grassroots Grant to promote and develop the growth of wheelchair tennis in their local communities.
- The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges (Tulsa, Okla.)
- Dwight F. Davis Memorial Tennis Center (St. Louis, Mo.)
- Friends of Woods Tennis, Inc. (Lincoln, Neb.)
- Midwest Adaptive Sports (Kansas City, Mo.)
- QCA Adaptive Sports Association (Davenport, Iowa)
The five organizations received a combined $17,740 in grant funding. Grant amounts were based on each program’s existing budget and future programming needs.
Recipients can use the award to support coaching, court time, equipment, recruitment and events, including tournaments and camps.
Since the grants were first awarded in 2008, the USTA has now given more than $1 million in financial support to U.S. wheelchair tennis programs.
“We would not see the amazing growth numbers within the sport of wheelchair tennis if not for these local grassroots champions delivering wheelchair tennis on a daily basis,” said Evan Enquist, USTA director of adapted tennis. “With over $1 million now contributed to these programs, we know for a fact that the USTA is making a difference every day in wheelchair tennis.”
This year’s grants are particularly significant with 2026 marking the 50th year of wheelchair tennis. Celebrations of the milestone year are happening across the country, and you can check out a historical timeline of wheelchair tennis highlights within the USTA Missouri Valley by clicking here.
