USTA League Championships set for 36th season

E.J. Crawford | September 21, 2016

The USTA League National Championships are back and better than ever for the fall of 2016, with champions set to be crowned in 36 different brackets ranging in age from 18 & over to 40 & over to 55 & over, and encompassing men’s play, women’s competition and mixed doubles.

The 36th edition of USTA League Nationals will kick off Friday, Sept. 23, in Mobile, Ala., and Rancho Mirage, Calif., featuring the 18 & over 2.5 women, the 18 & over 5.0 men and women (all in Mobile) and the 18 & over 4.0 men and women (in Rancho Mirage). After a week off, Nationals resume Oct. 7 and run through Nov. 13.

In addition to Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile and the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, the other host sites for 2016 are the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.; the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Tucson, Ariz.; and the La Quinta Resort in La Quinta, Calif.

Each national championship will have 17 men’s teams and women’s teams vying for its respective title. Participating teams from each section prevailed in both their area and sectional championships this summer in order to qualify.

More than 300,000 players are currently competing on a USTA League team, making USTA League the world’s largest recreational tennis league. These teams are open to any USTA member that is 18 years of age or older and feature adult and mixed doubles divisions, as well as 40-and-over and 55-and-over senior divisions.

In addition, USTA League also offers Flex Leagues and section league programs include combo doubles, mixed seniors, tri-level and more.
