Four New England Champs Crowned at July L2

WESTBOROUGH, MA- In their first action following New England Sectionals, top junior players traveled across the country from July 1-4 to compete in the July L2 National Tournaments. From the East Coast to the Midwest, New Englanders brought home solid results in all age divisions, winning four singles and doubles championships and nabbing six top-three finishes. 

 

Below are the top New England performances:

 

Singles

 

Peter Conklin (Fairfield, CT)- Champion, Boys’ 18s, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. 

Eleanor Schulson (Newburyport, MA)- Champion, Girls’ 16s, Force Sports Dayton, Englewood, OH. 

Olivia Lincer (Windsor, CT)- 8th place, Girls’ 12s, Triad Tennis Management, Greensboro, NC. 

Ryan Fu (Andover, MA)- 8th place, Boys’ 18s, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY.

Page Freeman (Ashland, MA)- 10th place, Girls’ 18s, Alexis Boss Tennis Center at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH.

Tristan Stringer (Stamford, CT)- 12th place, Boys’ 12s, In the Zone Tennis, Grand Rapids, MI. 

 

Doubles

 

Alexis Almy (Southborough, MA) & Jenna Sloan (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA)- Champions, Girls’ 18s, Alexis Boss Tennis Center at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH. 

Olivia Lincer (Windsor, CT) & Caroline McGinley (Essex Falls, NJ)- Champions, Girls’ 12s, Triad Tennis Management, Greensboro, NC. 

Grace Joyce (Newton, MA) & Julia Newman (Natick, MA)- 2nd place, Girls’ 18s, Alexis Boss Tennis Center at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH.

Eleanor Schulson (Newburyport, MA) and Emily Zhang (Sharon, MA)- 3rd place, Girls 16s, Force Sports Dayton, Englewood, OH.

    NE Wins Friendship Cup

    The Friendship Cup has a rich history and successful story of establishing international camaraderie and sisterhood both on and off the court. The tradition started in 1967 when Walter Foeger of Vermont was looking to establish competitive senior tennis play in alliance with the New England Lawn Tennis Association (NELTA), now USTA New England. He contacted George Barta of the Canadian senior division, and together, they created the Friendship Cup. In that year, players competed on three courts at the Jay Peak Resort in Vermont. Read More
