Senior Slams Continue with Clay Courts
CONCORD, MA- The Concord Country Club in Concord, MA hosted the second Senior Slam event of the summer- Clay Courts from July 6-9. Players competed in the men’s and women’s divisions ranging from 50s to 70s and were awarded national ranking points.
The Senior Clay Courts will continue with the Men's 50s and Women's 70s Singles as well as the Men's 50s and 55s doubles divisions on August 10 once again at Concord Country Club.
In Men’s 65s doubles action, the top seeded Deptula/Shaw pairing was upset by the team of Jenkins/Kimball. In the Men’s 60s singles, No. 4 seed Dirk Dugan reached the finals, but fell short against top seeded Gary Jenkins.
There was a great atmosphere throughout the event which included an informal party on Saturday night with food and drinks.

The Friendship Cup has a rich history and successful story of establishing international camaraderie and sisterhood both on and off the court. The tradition started in 1967 when Walter Foeger of Vermont was looking to establish competitive senior tennis play in alliance with the New England Lawn Tennis Association (NELTA), now USTA New England. He contacted George Barta of the Canadian senior division, and together, they created the Friendship Cup. In that year, players competed on three courts at the Jay Peak Resort in Vermont. Read More
