WINT FILIPEK SR. MEMORIAL TENNIS TOURNAMENT DONATES $25,000 TO U.S. TENNIS ASSOCIATION OF NEW ENGLAND
NORTH HAVEN, CT - The U.S. Tennis Association of New England (USTA New England) has graciously accepted a $25,000 donation from the Wint Filipek Sr. Memorial Tennis Tournament. A portion of the money will be earmarked for growing tennis in Connecticut while the rest will be used to promote the sport throughout New England.
“Our tournament is all about promoting the growth of tennis, and we know that’s USTA New England’s mission as well. We’ve had a great relationship with USTA New England over the years and we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give back,” said tournament creator and director, Wint Filipek Jr.
The Tournament began in 2005 to honor the life and legacy of Winton (Wint) Filipek Sr., who played tennis for 60 years and was a Meriden, CT city champion. After a two-year hiatus, the tournament will return in 2021 and will be played from June 12-17 at the Ridge Top Club in North Haven.
Currently in its 16th year, the tournament has raised and donated nearly $200,000 to the local community.
This year, all tournament proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association of Connecticut. The Ridge Top Club is also donating all tournament fees to the organization.
“Wint and his family have done such an incredible job bringing the tennis community together for this annual tournament. What they do and how they care for their community is inspirational. We’re fortunate to have this tournament in our backyard and we’ll continue to support it however we can,” said Matt Olson, USTA New England Executive Director & COO.
This year’s tournament expects to bring in between 150-200 doubles players over 12 divisions. To learn more about the Filipek Tournament and to sign up for this year’s event, visit www.wintfilipeksrtennis.org.
