USTA New England Pickleball
Tennis and pickleball have experienced a recent boom in popularity! For the third straight year, tennis has increased in popularity nationwide! More than 23.6 million people are estimated to have played tennis in 2022 -- one million of which came from New England, which hit the prestigious threshold for the first time. With that, the growth of racquet sports as an industry is also on the rise, headlined by pickleball.
We have started offering pickleball programs in a few towns in New England. and are continuing to explore and pilot further opportunities in pickleball.

National Advancing Pickleball Leagues
The Ridge Club and The Kingsbury Clubs have been selected as the two New England facilities to host a new pickleball event this year. In collaboration with USTA New England and DUPR, these events will provide the opportunity to advance to a National Invitational in Las Vegas! The national event will play on the rooftop courts at The Plaza the weekend of October 27th-29th.
- Locations:
- Ridge Club in Acton , MA will be hosting a 19+ Co-Ed 7.5 combined rating division event
- Kingsbury Club in Medfield, MA will be hosting a 19+ Co-Ed 7.5 combined rating division event and a 19+ Co-Ed 9.0 combined rating division event
- Dates:
- Ridge Club 7.5 division: Sunday, July 30th from 8:30am to 2:30pm and Sunday, August 13th from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Rain date, August 19th from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
- Kingsbury Club 7.5 division: Saturday, August 26th from 8:00am-2:00pm and Sunday, August 27th from 9:00am to 1:00pm
- Kingsbury Club 9.0 division: Saturday, September 9th from 8:00am-2:00pm
- Teams: The 7.5 two-day events will have 6 teams and the 9.0 division one day event will have 4 teams. All team consist of at least 3 men and 3 women. Teams must have enough players to fill all matches on both dates.
- Format: A full round-robin will be played for all divisions. For the 7.5 divisions, three rounds will be on day one and two rounds on day two. For the 9.0 division, all rounds will be played on one day. A team match includes 1 women's doubles and 1 men's doubles (played simultaneously) followed by 2 mixed doubles (played simultaneously). A mixed doubles tiebreaker will be played if teams are tied to determine the winner.
- DUPR & USTA accounts: All players must have a free DUPR account and rating and a free USTA account to participate
- National advancement: For both 7.5 divisions, the top two teams will qualify for the National Invitational. For the 9.0 division, the top team will qualify for the National Invitational.
- Price: This price includes prizes for the top two teams, raffle and refreshments.
- Ridge Club 7.5 division: $50 per player for Ridge Club members; $65 per player for non-Ridge Club members.
- Kingsbury Club 7.5 division: $75 for Kingsbury Club full members, $85 for Kingsbury Club pickleball only members, $100 for non-members
- Kingsbury Club 9.0 division: $60 for Kingsbury Club full members, $65 for Kingsbury Club pickleball only members, $80 for non-members
To register, you must identify a team captain and have them complete this captain interest form. Once they complete that form, they will be issued a team number to share with their teammates to register on USTA's TennisLink registration platform. You can find the full rules here.
Metrowest Pickleball Travel Leagues
USTA New England is partnering with 8 park and recreation departments to offer travel pickleball leagues in the below areas. The leagues below are for the spring season and we hope to offer these leagues again in the summer.
Medway, Millis, Franklin, Medfield division
Sunday mornings from 9-11:30 am
Advanced flight: 9-10:15 am
Intermediate flight: 10:15-11:30 am
April 30 to June 11 (skipping Memorial Day weekend), rain dates: June 18 & 25
Matches played at Medway High School courts and Millis pickleball courts
All matches are doubles, lineups set by a team captain
Price: $70 per player

Norwood, Westwood, Needham, Walpole division
Sunday mornings from 9:00-11:30 am
Competitive flight: 9:00-10:15 am
Recreational flight: 10:15-11:30 am

Matches played at Norwood courts and Westwood courts
All matches are doubles, lineups set by a team captain
Price: $70 per player

Framingham Pickleball Social League
USTA New England is partnering with Framingham Recreation to offer a social pickleball league this summer.
Thursday evenings from 6-8pm
July 13 to August 10
Butterworth Park
Players will rotate partners for at least six 15 minute doubles matches each week
Price: $55 for residents, $65 for non-residents

Statement of Guidance on Pickleball
As the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the United States and in concert with court builders and park professionals, the USTA has put forth an expanded Statement of Guidance for the development, expansion, and renovation of public facilities and spaces related to tennis and pickleball.
This guidance is presented within the context and understanding that – while tennis remains the most popular racquet sport in the United States – tennis and pickleball are currently experiencing significant participation increases throughout the country and demand for both tennis and pickleball courts is expanding exponentially.
