Georgia HOF Inductee Bill Ozaki
USTA Georgia "catches up" with Class of 2019 Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame member Bill Ozaki. Bill updates us on what he's been doing during the pandemic, his vast knowledge and history of tennis in the South and salutes folks who were a huge influence on his success, both as a coach and the USTA Southern, Director, Junior Competition & High Performance.
Southern Tennis Hall of Fame member Mary Hatfield had a concise description of Ozaki: “Bill is Mr. Junior Tennis.” Hatfield worked under Ozaki in the USTA Southern Junior Department.
Known for his warm and outgoing personality, in addition to his leadership skills, Ozaki, of Cherry Log, GA, had been instrumental in nearly doubling junior tournament participation from 1991 to 2019, when he retired. “When I started, we had about 20,000 tournament players. Now we have about 38,000,” he said.
