WHM: USTA Southern Vice President Ashley Massengale
For Women's History Month, USTA Southern posed a series of questions to our Southern Tennis Foundation chairman and four women on the USTA Board of Directors.
Ashley Massengale
Ashley Massengale is a USTA Southern Vice President as well as a past president of USTA Georgia and USTA Atlanta. She grew up playing tennis in New Orleans and then at Yale University. After a break from the game, she found her love of the game again after moving to Atlanta and is an avid player, captain and volunteer.
Woman who’s inspired me & why: Honestly I have no answer. I feel like a bad person for not having any women heroes. So here's how I would answer I guess: My mom is my rock. Although I was a daddy's girl, she was always teaching me how to have a career and a family and how to influence without being the one in the spotlight.
Favorite tennis memory: I love a good against all odds story and my team qualifying for and winning the 40+ Open national tournament in 2021 felt like one. It was fun, it was hard and it was exciting!
Fun fact about me: Why am I so boring? I feel like I have no fun facts. I used to usher Duke men's basketball games.
When not playing tennis, I’d rather be: Traveling and playing with my 5-year-old son.
Favorite tennis match I played in: Almost all of them! Tennis is my happy place 🙂
Favorite tennis match I watched: Serena's last match at the US Open.
Dream doubles partner: Rennae Stubbs
Why I volunteer: I love tennis and want to share this passion with others, but I also love the people I volunteer with.
