2019 ADULT 55 & OVER  SECTIONAL RESULTS

Five different cities came away with titles at this year's Adult 55 & Over Sectional Championships in Dallas from October 5-6. Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, NOHO and San Antonio will all be sending teams to the 55 & Over National Championships to be held later this year.

 

Women's 6.0 Champions – San Antonio

 

San Antonio went undefeated in the Women's 6.0 division, beating Fort Worth, NETX and Dallas for the title. The team will head to the Adult 55 & Over 6.0 National Championships from November 8-10 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

 

"Blossom Dare Doubles" is captained by Ann Ross, co-captained by Brenda Worsham and plays out of N.E.I.S.D. Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio. The team features team members Kim Lonergan, April Emrie, Julie Regan, Shelly Power, Deborah Owens, Tressa Trayhan, Sandy Pena, Virginia Mosis and Deborah Lange.

Men’s 6.0 Champions - Fort Worth

 

Fort Worth went undefeated in flight play, winning 72% of its games along the way. The team will head to the Adult 55 & Over 6.0 National Championships from November 8-10 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

 

"ATC Alzuro" is captained by Rene Alzuro and plays out of Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington. The team includes players Tom Rockwell, Judson Jost, Daniel Hopson, Kurt Hormeister, Tex Torrez, Michael Boone, Art Johnson, Robert Asbill, Mike Deleonardis and Derek Morris.

Women's 7.0 Champions – NOHO

 

NOHO earned the Women's 7.0 crown after beating Austin 2-1 in the semifinals and defeating Dallas 3-0 in the finals. The team earned a spot at the Adult 55 & Over 7.0 National Championships from October 25-27 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

 

"Ryniak-Candy Cane Park" is captained by Irene Ryniak, co-captained by Nancy Oesterling and plays out of Candy Cane Park in Conroe. The 14 players on the roster include Michelle Flath, Anne Burke, Cynthia Jansen, Tammie Gross, Becky Clark, Kelly Golden, Melissa Hill, Tracy Cassidy, Dyana Spearman, Kay Holub, Carol Viecelli and Laura Williams.

Men’s 7.0 Champions – Houston

 

Houston went undefeated in flight play and downed Fort Worth 2-1 in the finals to win a trip to the National Championships. The team will go to the Adult 55 & Over 7.0 National Championships in Surprise, Arizona from October 25-27 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.

 

“Missouri City - Quail Valley Aces” is captained by Tony De Santis, co-captained by Gautam Adhia and plays out of the Missouri City Recreation and Tennis Center. The roster features Augustine Ouseph, Gene Saylors, David Wang, Ronnie Kwan, Tin Dang, Bob Singleton, Bobby Lim Jr., Tom Yeung, Donnie Rochelle, Luis Montilva, Raymond Luu, Parsons Jim, Jesus Madamba and Thomas Rapson.

Women's 8.0 Champions – Houston

 

Houston just beat out Austin in flight play to earn a spot in the finals, where the team beat Dallas 2-1 to clinch the Women's 8.0 championship. The team will head to the Adult 55 & Over 8.0 National Championships from November 1-3 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

 

"Missouri City - Mod Squad" is captained by Janice Heuer and plays out of Missouri City Recreation and Tennis Center. The team roster features 12 players: Judy Gray, Janet Sweezey, Rhonda Everson, Mary Nolte, Cathy Maler, Liz Wooland, Cecilia Alonso, Claire Reekie, Lisa Archer, Karen Schulz and Ann Pham.

Men’s 8.0 Champions – NOHO

 

NOHO won its second straight 8.0 title, defeating Dallas 2-1 in the finals to clinch a spot at the National Championships. The team will head to the Adult 55 & Over 8.0 National Championships from November 1-3 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

 

"Woodlands-Kerig" is captained by Phil Kerig, co-captained by Michael Spearman and plays out of Sawmill Park in The Woodlands. The team roster features Michael Mitchell, Rick Malone, George Orchard, Thomas Rapson, Robert Klein, Chad Johnson, Thomas Sawaya, Werner Johnson, Kevin Campbell, David Miller, Ron Travis, Darrel Thorson, Aubrey Frazier and Ben Caruso.

Women's 9.0 Champions – Dallas

 

Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin all finished with team records of 2-1 but it was Dallas earning the tiebreak to win them the Women's 9.0 title. The team will head to the Adult 55 & Over 9.0 National Championships from November 8-10 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

 

“Greenhill/Johnson W9.0S” is captained by Cynthia Johnson and plays out of Greenhill Tennis Center in Addison. The team features players Barbara Valente, Marci Addington, Gayle Prejean, Lillian Cobb, Patricia Arvanitis, Vicki Buholz, Eve Herman, Cheri Lattimore, Kate Clarke, Betsy Lawson and Julie Salomon.
