35 JUNIORS AWARDED TEXAS DIVERSITY GRANT
USTA Texas proudly awarded 35 distinguished youth tennis players with a 2019 Texas Diversity Grant. The grant provides players with financial assistance to prepare for and participate in tournament play. . Grant recipients completed a grant application, which required a report card, a recommendation letter from a tennis coach or school official, and a written essay. The Diversity and Inclusion committee reviewed and ranked each application to determine awardees.
Marcos Valdez, Director of Diversity and Inclusion at USTA Texas, stated, “The Texas Diversity Grant provides youth with the opportunity to increase their frequency of tennis play. 2018 grant reporting indicates that recipients participated in more tournaments than the previous year, improved their rankings, and reported increased confidence on and off the tennis court, all of which are goals the grant attempts to achieve.”
By relieving some of the costs associated with playing tennis, the grant intends to provide greater opportunities for recipients to engage in tennis—with the hope it is a sport that is fulfilling for a lifetime. Congratulations to all the 2019 Texas Diversity Grant Recipients winners!
