2020 NJTL Art Contest Winners
USTA Texas is proud to announce the six winners of the sixth annual National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) Art Contest of contestants from 5-18 years old.
The competition was open to all residents of Texas who were under the age of 18 and active in their local NJTL chapter. This year, students were asked to “create a work of art depicting a time when you made a friend on court.” Each of the six winners received a plaque with a grand prize winner being selected from the winners pool.
The six winners of the 2020 USTA Texas NJTL Art Contest were selected in the following categories:
- Elementary School Girl: Erin Gan-Dy of Dallas Tennis and Education Academy
- Elementary School Boy: Daniel Chun of San Antonio NJTL
- Middle School Girl: Giselle Murillo of Tennis Success (Corpus Christi)
- Middle School Boy: Brady Lin of Dallas Tennis and Education Academy
- High School Girl: Valeria Quezada of Tennis Success (Corpus Christi)
- High School Boy: Pierce Warnock of Spring Branch Tennis Association
Our grand prize winner this year is 10th Grader Valeria Quezada from Tennis Success (Corpus Christi). In light of the unprecedented events taking place within our country, we want to be nimbly positioned to afford Valeria a grand prize of the same caliber as years past. Last year, the grand prize winner received four (4) tickets to this year’s U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston. However, due to the pandemic we are facing in our society, the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) has suspended play through June 7 due to health and safety concerns plaguing our community at large.
The NJTL Art Contest is an opportunity for participants to express their love for tennis and their growth through the NJTL program in an artistic way. This contest helps participants in preparation for the upcoming USTA Foundation Essay Contest where players use experiences through tennis to tell a story. The NJTL program was established in 1969, with the mission to develop the character of young people through participation in tennis.
