2025 USTA Texas Family of the Year Award
What does receiving this award mean to you?
"Receiving this award has been both a surprise and an honor for us. I've always thought this recognition was for families with older kids/adults who had long-established roots in the community. It is humbling and somewhat surprising to be recognized while our children are only 11 and 13 years old.
This recognition brings a challenge in maintaining our involvement and passion for the sport as a family. Perhaps knowing that people are now watching her will motivate Sidney to stay positive and focused on the court. She now has a reputation to uphold. (I suppose we all do!)
In all honesty, it is incredibly gratifying to know that others have noticed and appreciated our efforts in promoting tennis within our community, at tournaments, and among our family. This award is not just a testament to our dedication and hard work, but also a recognition of the positive impact we strive to make in the world of tennis. It will inspire us to keep pushing forward, fostering a love for the sport in the next generation." - Courtney Nagel
Presented at the 2025 Awards Luncheon at the Dallas/Plano Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano on Saturday, Feb. 8th:
The Nagel family is a force to be reckoned with in the world of tennis.
Courtney, a former nationally ranked junior and college standout at the University of New Mexico, has dedicated her life to fostering a love for the sport. As Director of Tennis at Bentwood Country Club for over 25 years, she has built one of the most dynamic programs in Texas, earning national recognition for her efforts. Her commitment extends beyond the court, with significant contributions to local charities and the Angelo State University women's tennis program.
Eric, an avid USTA league player and tournament volunteer, provides unwavering support to his family's passion. Rewk, a nationally ranked junior player, showcases his talent while diligently assisting his mother with tournaments. Youngest daughter Sydney, a rising star in the girls' 12s, consistently exceeds expectations, competing in national tournaments and showcasing her dedication to the sport.
Together, the Nagels embody the spirit of sportsmanship and exemplify the positive impact that a family's shared passion can have on their community and the world of tennis.
Congratulations to this year’s USTA Texas Family of the Year Award recipients, The Nagel Family.
