2025 Awards Nominations Open
AUSTIN, Texas – Nominations for the most prestigious and historical awards in Texas tennis are open for 2025. The USTA Texas Awards highlight individuals and groups who have made an indelible impact on their community and helped spread the sport of tennis and its positive influence on lives and local areas.
This year’s nomination period is from Friday, November 1 to Friday, November 22 at 11:59 p.m. CT.
Awards for individuals include the W.T. Caswell Lifetime Service Award, the USTA Texas Community Service Award, and the Lloyd Sessions Educational Merit Award as well as recognition for contributions to wheelchair tennis, adaptive tennis, officiating and senior tennis among others. Organizational awards include large and small CTAs as well as Member Organization.
For 2025, two new areas will be added to the USTA Texas Awards nomination process: the addition of the USTA Texas NJTL Impact Award recognizing efforts in the National Junior Tennis & Learning space, as well as the addition of the USTA Texas Junior Sportsmanship Awards to the fall nomination process.
Sharon Chapple, chair of the USTA Texas Awards Committee expressed her excitement for bringing these awards into the fold.
“Introducing an award for NJTL provides an opportunity to recognize the impact that tennis and education can make in the lives of the youth in our communities,” she said. “It’s also great to be able to reward our junior athletes for their good sportsmanship on a broader scale. Their attitudes and practice of respect and fairness to their opponents, officials and teammates creates an inclusive environment that benefits us all.”
Chapple noted the Selection Committees will carefully review each submission, then meet to discuss each nominee as a group to select the most outstanding ones as this year’s winners.
“Award winners are chosen based on how well their nomination meets the outlined description and criteria,” she said. “The process isn't a quick or easy one, but it is rewarding to learn more about the work being done to grow tennis in Texas by so many great volunteers, programs and organizations.”
Chapple said these awards highlight the outstanding contributions of those who continue the growth and development of tennis in Texas.
“I hope that the recipients of all of our awards feel honored and proud,” she said. “Looking over the list of past winners, every name and organization will be familiar for their effort and dedication to Texas tennis. To be selected to join those legends is quite an honor!”
Recipients will be announced in early 2025. A formal awards banquet applauding the achievements of adult and organization award winners will take place on Saturday, February 8 at the USTA Texas Annual Meeting in Plano, Texas. Winners of junior awards will be recognized and celebrated during the WTA 250 and ATP 250 tournaments that will be held in Texas this spring: the ATX Open in Austin and the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston.
