What does receiving this award mean to you?

“The USTA Texas Community Service Award represents the power of tennis to bring people together and create positive change. I’m honored to be recognized for service that reflects my belief in using tennis as a tool for community, connection, and opportunity.”

– Kalisha Lee

About the winner:

From small-town Louisiana to watching world-class exhibitions in Malaysia, Kalisha Lee’s tennis journey proves that a passion for the sport can start with a simple challenge—and perhaps the promise of a great outfit. What began at age 29 as a way to find a new social outlet has blossomed into a decade-long mission to ensure every person in her community has a place on the court.

Kalisha’s impact on Texas tennis spans over eight years of dedicated board service and volunteer leadership. Her journey began in Tarrant County, where she served for six years on the Northeast Tarrant Tennis (NETT) board as the Tournament and Events Coordinator. During this time, she was a driving force behind Net Generation youth tennis programs, working specifically with underprivileged youth and spearheading fundraising efforts for the Community Enrichment Center. Since moving to Weatherford, she has brought that same "focused energy" to the Parker County Tennis Association board, quickly becoming a linchpin for local organizational growth.

In 2024, Kalisha led the ambitious development of Parker County’s first-ever Junior Team Tennis program. While JTT can be complex to implement in rural areas, Kalisha’s innovative approach led to an immediate surge in participation, growing the program from 75 players in the spring to 125 by the fall. By coordinating with local high school coaches and creating unique "JTT Sign-Up Day" events, she didn't just recruit players; she built a sustainable structure that integrates parent volunteers and local business partners into the fabric of the game.

Kalisha embodies the heart of this award through her ability to inspire and motivate entire families to embrace recreational play. Much like the pioneers of community tennis, she prioritizes a fun learning environment, ensuring that the youngest 8-and-under players feel as welcome as the seasoned competitors. Her selfless dedication to growing the game in multiple communities serves as a powerful reminder that, both on and off the court, life is truly as good as your mindset.

Through her tireless advocacy and inclusive spirit, Kalisha has transformed the landscape of Parker County tennis into a vibrant community where everyone belongs.
