The Best of Texas Tennis 2023

AUSTIN, Texas – On Friday, August 4, the Best of Texas Tennis will return for its second year. The awards competition event lets members of the Texas tennis community highlight their favorite individuals, organizations, and programs across the state. It is created and managed by USTA Texas.

The Best of Texas Tennis recognizes those who portray excellence in the tennis community through individual, organization, and program awards. Like last year, the 2023 program will be open to members of the wider community: both USTA and non-USTA members are eligible to nominate, vote and be recognized. In 2022, over 175 nominees were submitted and received a total of over 74,000 votes. 

Fred Viancos, USTA Texas Executive Director, said the awards competition gives people across Texas a chance to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions to the sport in a fun and interactive way.

"We're excited to build on the success of last year's Best of Texas Tennis for 2023,” Viancos said. “This program is unique in that it gives everyone in the Texas tennis community a chance to nominate and celebrate the people, programs and organizations that make our sport thrive in the Lone Star State."

This year’s edition of Best of Texas Tennis features 31 categories including those recognizing tournament directors, community tennis associations, school coaches, collegiate tennis programs and more. Nominating and voting take place virtually through a specialized digital platform with opportunities for nominators, voters and nominees to share and rally support for their favorites.

In an effort to continue recognizing outstanding contributions to Texas tennis, 2023 will include ten new or updated categories including Adult Social Tennis, Certified Coach, Inclusive Tennis, PE Coach, TOC (Tennis on Campus) Club Team, Volunteer, and more. 

The campaign is broken down into two phases: a nomination period open August 4-20, and a voting period from Aug. 25 to Sept. 3. There are no limits on the number of nominees a person can submit, the number of nominations a nominee can receive, or the number of categories a nominee can be nominated for. During the voting period, an individual can vote once daily per nominee per category and can vote within multiple categories each day.
