Best of Texas Tennis 2023 Results
AUSTIN, Texas – After some five weeks of nominations and voting, the 2023 Best of Texas Tennis winners are here.
Over 77,000 votes were cast across 29 categories to choose the best individuals, programs and organizations in the Texas tennis community. 2023 is the program’s second year, and voters picked their favorites from a slate of 154 nominees.
This year’s winners span the state of Texas, from large metro areas like Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston to smaller towns like San Benito and Aledo.
Best of Texas Tennis is unique in that it is a recognition program where the Texas tennis community itself nominates and votes for its favorites for each year.
To celebrate their achievement, winners will receive a custom Best of Texas Tennis plaque or banner—and of course, bragging rights—in their category for 2023.
The nominee with the most votes overall was Sarah Flood, in the category of Certified Coach. Flood received 9,083 total votes. A new category for 2023, the Certified Coach nominees received over 30,000 votes, by far the most popular category for voting this year.
“I was very humbled to even be nominated but to receive so many votes has been unreal,” she said. “I am very grateful for the USTA and my surrounding community that voted for me. I love serving others and am reminded of how many people have impacted my life as a result of tennis.”
Sarah Pernell of the Central Texas Tennis Association (CTTA), which won for both Small Community Tennis Association and NJTL Program, said the honor is a testament to the passion of its community.
“This proves to our team that, although we are small in comparison to other programs, we are making an impact on our community and the kids who live there,” she said.
This year’s Best of Texas Tennis was announced on July 21. Voting ended September 3.
