HTA ANNOUNCES 2017 SCHOLARSHIPS

The Houston Tennis Association (HTA) has distributed college scholarships totaling $24,500 to 18 greater Houston area high school graduates.

           

The students received sums from $1,000 to $2,000.  In addition to funds provided by HTA, donors include the National Senior Women’s Clay Court Championships Tennis Tournament, West Houston Ladies Tennis Association, the World Oilmen’s Tennis Tournament, CSE W-Industries and Copperfield Racquet & Health Club. Four of the awards were given in memory of Steve Wolford, one in memory of Michael Horvath, Jr., and two HTA NJTL (National Junior Tennis & Learning) scholarships in memory of David Scott and Sean Rudolph. 

           

Students who received the grants and their high schools and college destinations are Aava Azad (Clear Springs, University of Houston);  Taylor Marie Bacarisse (Barbers Hill, UT Tyler); Andrew Joseph Brown (Cypress Woods, UT Austin); Melody Duong (Clear Springs, UT Austin); Meagan Marie Foster (George Ranch, UT Austin); Michael Landon Gloaguen (Lamar IB World, Baylor); Cade Harrington (Ball Galveston, Hawaii Pacific); Amy Nicole Harvey (Barbers Hill, UT Austin); Hudson Hopper (Houston Christian, UT Austin); Sean Dang Le (Dobie, UH); Fredy Martinez (Cypress Springs, Texas State at Cypress); Jocelyn Martinez (Cypress Springs, PrattMWP Institute); Sara Phung Trinh Nguyen (Cypress Springs, UT Austin); Steven Phan (Dobie, UT Austin); Lars Wiik (Seven Lakes, Trinity); Mitchell James Moreno (Ball Galveston, Sam Houston State); Jordan Meza (Stratford, Vanderbilt); and Arya Shetty (Cypress Ranch, Rice).

           

All 18 students played either varsity tennis for their high school teams, participated in NJTL or in local USTA tournaments.

 

The HTA has awarded more than $274,000 in scholarship funds to deserving high school seniors since 1992.
