New Level 1 Junior Tournaments Added May 1-5
Texas will host one of eight new Level 1 junior events added to the 2021 calendar. The USTA Sections Invitational will be held May 1-5 during the currently scheduled L3 segment and will be held at eight different locations throughout the country. L1 is the most highly-competitive of the seven USTA junior tennis tournament levels.
The event will feature 128-player draws in the 12s, 14s, 16s, and 18s age divisions for both boys and girls and the fields will be entirely determined by a Section generated list. Each USTA Sectional Association can use its own set of qualification factors to determine its respective player entries.
The boys 12s national tournament will take place in Austin, Texas. "The Austin Tennis Academy team is really excited to be hosting our first L1 National event and to give our Texas players the opportunity to compete right here in Austin," says ATA's Brian Notis, Director of the Boys 12 and Under event.
The May L1 events were announced as part of the USTA's ongoing efforts to create more play opportunities for juniors and to ensure there are equitable opportunities for players to earn valuable rankings points.
"We are very grateful that USTA National has given us the opportunity to host a National Level 1 event in Texas," says Julio Godreau, Director of Junior Tennis for USTA Texas. "Also, we're thrilled that the Austin Tennis Academy will be hosting the Boys 12 and Under tournament, as they always do a fantastic job running events"
REGISTRATION DEADLINES are on Monday, April 1st. Look carefully as closing times vary by event depending on location. Please if your intent is to be considered for the event register as soon as possible as NO LATE ENTRIES will be considered or accepted regardless of the reason.
USTA TEXAS SELECTION CRITERIA FOR LEVEL 1 MAY 1-5 TOURNAMENTS
Texas will have 11 spots for the added National Level 1 May 1-5 for selection for each age division.
Selection will be based on the first 8 players selected from the national ranking List published on March 31st and the additional 3 players selected by the highest UTR. Players may register for two divisions. If selected for the higher division, they will be taken off the younger division list. If they do not get into either they will be put on both alternate lists.
Alternates will be ordered by the National Standing List. If a Texas player withdraws from the national ranking list players or UTR players, the next players will come from the Texas ordered alternate National Standing List.
If a player withdraws after the draws are made, the next highest National Standing List Ranked alternate player (from any section) in the country will be the next alternate.
