Eastern Camp Pathway
The USTA Eastern Camp Pathway provides a comprehensive series of development opportunities for young tennis players to enhance their skills and grow as athletes. The pathway includes Early Development Camps (ages 7-10), Team Eastern Sectional Camps (ages 11-13) and Specialty Camps (ages 14-16).
Early Development Camps
Early Development Camps (EDCs) mark the beginning of the Eastern Camp Pathway. They are designed to provide additional training opportunities for young tennis players ages 7-10 who compete in Orange Green ball events. Each camp spans two days, with players participating in one three-hour session each day. The program is built around a structured curriculum that focuses on three core areas: athletic development, character building, and tennis skills. Players selected for these camps have already participated in Orange and Green Ball tournaments and Junior Team Tennis (JTT).
Team Eastern Sectional Camps
Team Eastern Sectional Camps are held twice a year. These two-day camps for 18-20 players have clear, established objectives that are aligned with those of regional and national camps. Section staff and the Eastern Coaches Commission work together to select the players invited to these camps. Selection is based on a number of factors including USTA National rankings, ITF World Tennis Number data, as well as recommendations from section coaches. USTA Eastern's goal in bringing players together is to help build athletes who possess the following attributes:
- Mental Skills: “Compete Like a Champion” – 7 Core Values
- Technical Development: Mastery of continental grip, efficient movement patterns and stroke mechanics
- Tactical Skills: Mastery of proactive shot planning, ball recognition, problem-solving and transitioning
- Athletic Development: Improving agility, balance, coordination, speed, strength and mobility
Eastern Specialty Camps
Eastern Specialty Camps are offered to those in the 14 & Under and 16 & Under age divisions and provide intensive training to help develop specific aspects of the game. Selection is based on a player's National Standing List (NSL) ranking, with some input from the USTA Coaches Commission.
Clay Court Camp (14U)
Typically held prior to the USTA National Clay Court Championships, this camp focuses on mastering clay court strategies and techniques that can help prepare players for success on the surface.
Doubles Camp (16U)
Typically held before the USTA National Doubles Championship, this camp helps players sharpen their doubles skills through targeted drills. Understanding doubles technique and strategy is critical as players consider competing at the collegiate level.
