Coaches & Organizers

Role of the Coach and Organizer in the Jr. Team Tennis Program

Without the help of parents, teaching pros, and volunteers our juniors would not be able to compete with their friends, experience teamwork and unity, have fun, and learn life lessons on and off the court.

Each team is REQUIRED to have a Team Captain/Coach who is over the age of 21 years old. Minimum age for co-captains is 18 years old.

Many teams will have a coach to help with practices and competition and a co-captain or team manager to help with the administrative side of organizing a team.

Each team captain/coach is REQUIRED by USTA to go through a Background Screening Process prior to the start of the JTT season.

There is no cost to go through the background screening and three steps are involved:

  1. View Safe Play Training Video Series
  2. Read the Youth Protection Policies and Procedures for USTA Jr. ADVERTISEMENT Team Tennis
  3. Complete your background screen application

Everything you need to know about captaining a team can be found in the Captain/Coaches Handbook below, including how to register your players, instructions to the background screening process, how to sign into TennisLink as a coach, and how to record match scores.

How to Become a Coach/Manager (2 steps)

1 – Register in Tennislink. TennisLink serves as the online registration process for Junior Team Tennis. TennisLink also provides registration for up to 2 coaches/managers per team (a coach / manager, as well as a co – manager). The person who is the primary contact for the team & handles team management and / or coaching responsibility, shall be listed as the coach/manager. If another individual will have regular & continuous contact with the team, he or she shall be entered in TennisLink as the co-manager.

Click Here to Register in Tennislink.

2 – Once you have registered in Tennislink and obtained a sign-on and password, you can move on to complete the registration process. Click here for a  PDF of the step-by-step guide

You will start here on the Net Generation website by clicking on ‘Become A Provider’. You will be taken through the Safe Play program, which is an online training module and a background check. The background screening is conducted by the National Center for Safety Initiatives. (Click here for a PDF of the step-by-step guide).

If you are currently registered as a provider and only need to renew your background check, click here.
