Colorado set to celebrate one millionth league player

March 19, 2024

One million league players and counting

Forty-four years after the start of USTA Adult Leagues, Colorado is set to register the state's One Millionth Participant.

Since 1980, millions of players across the country have competed in USTA League Tennis, the nation's largest recreational tennis league. In that span of more than 40 years, Colorado has been among the leaders in annual participation. In fact, in the last dozen years, Denver has ranked first or second in league play nationally, a testament to the passion Mile High players have for the game.

After fewer than 1,000 players competed in the inaugural league season, it took more than 30 years for Colorado to register its 500,000th league participant, and then only 13 more years to hit the one million mark, which USTA Colorado projects will likely happen in May or June.

The USTA Colorado league department is keeping close watch on the registration numbers as they continue to climb toward the 1M mark, a huge milestone for a state considered to be "climate challenged".  Last year, more than 40,000 players registered for USTA Adult Leagues across the state, the sixth time in eight years participation has soared above the 40K mark.

Thanks to our generous partners, the 1 Millionth Player will be enjoying a two-night stay at The Broadmoor (plus lessons), lots of league swag, a case of tennis balls and a gift certificate to Game, Set, Match, Inc.
