It’s that time of year where USTA Missouri Valley Section League champions will be crowned. The most wonderful time of the tennis year, indeed! Who will punch their ticket to USTA National Championships?

USTA Missouri Valley 65 & Over Invitational
July 23-25, Overland Park, Kansas
A total of 28 teams descended upon the Overland Park Racquet Club in Kansas for a shot at punching their ticket to the USTA National 65 & Over Invitational. And exceptional tennis was the result.
On the women’s 6.0 side, the Rose Albrecht team from USTA St. Louis edged out the Shirley Brody team from USTA Oklahoma. In the Women’s 7.0 division, Janice Robert’s team out of Tulsa did not drop a match en route to the Section title. Ann Crompton’s 8.0 squad from USTA Heart of America defeated USTA Iowa’s Carole Kron/Julie Bruntz team in the final.
For the men, the 7.0 Division saw Tom Langwell’s USTA Oklahoma team take the championship, defeating USTA Nebraska’s Ronn Winquest team 3-0 in the finals. In 8.0 action, the Chris Cox team from USTA Heart of America edged the Shaw/Riggan team from USTA Oklahoma 2-1.

August 6-8 - St. Louis, Missouri
It was a gorgeous weekend for tennis August 6-8 in St. Louis as 23 teams headed to Dwight Davis Tennis Center and Westminster Christian Academy for the USTA Missouri Valley 18 & Over Section Championships.
Taking the court were NTRP 3.0, 4.0 & 5.0 teams from all seven USTA Missouri Valley Districts. In women's 3.0 play, Prox/LF came away with the Section title undefeated. On the men's side, it was Rhoads/Brandt from St. Louis who edged out Freed-Ray/LF of Oklahoma for the championship.
In 4.0 men's play, St. Louis' Nosic/O'Neill squeaked out a win over Hayes of Oklahoma. The women's tournament saw the Feemster/LF out of Oklahoma taking the title by defeating the Tegler team out of Nebraska. The Gadskey team out of St. Louis edged out the Eichenberg team from Heart of America in 5.0 women's play. For the men, it was the Buckley team out of Nebraska with a dominating performance to take the 5.0 men's title.

55 & Over
7.0, 9.0
August 6-8 - St. Louis, Missouri
Joining the 18 & Over Section Championships on the big stage August 6-8 in St. Louis was the 55 & Over USTA Missouri Valley Adult League Section Championships for NTRP 7.0 and 9.0. A total of 23 team headed to the Gateway to the West in hopes punching a ticket to the USTA Adult League National Championships in October.
The Bennett team from USTA Heart of America edged out the White team from Kansas 2-1 in the finals in 7.0 women play. In men's 7.0 play, the Cohlmia team from Oklahoma took the title after defeating Brinkmeyer WC out of St. Louis in the championship.
In 9.0 play, for the women, the Grooms/Greens team from Oklahoma dropped just two matches the entire weekend en route to a championship. On the men's side, the Weber team from Heart of America played tremendous tennis to win the round robin tournament.

2.5 Women, 3.5, 4.5
August 20-22 - Oklahoma City
It was a typical Oklahoma City weekend for the USTA Missouri Valley 18 & Over Section Championships - hot and sticky. But, despite the heat, several team overcame challenges to take home championships.
For 2.5 women, it was the Penn and Taylor team out of Oklahoma taking the title, going undefeated in round robin play. The team lost a total of two matches the entire weekend of play.
On the 3.5 side, for the women, the Shoup/Duntz team from USTA Heart of America battled through Pool Play and the championship bracket to win the championship. The team defeated the Patrick team from Nebraska 3-2 for the win. For men's 3.5, the Seitz/Jones team from USTA Kansas is advancing to the next level, besting a tough Cue/Day team from Oklahoma in the championship.
The 4.5 women's competition was a tough one, with the Chase team from USTA Iowa winning the championship against USTA Heart of America's Galloway team, 3-2. For the 4.5 men, it was USTA Heart of America's Ramsdell team grinding out a hard-fought win over the Towler team from Oklahoma.

Taking the stage in Oklahoma City along with the 18 & Over crew was the 55& Over Section Championships for NTRP 6.0 women, as well as men's and women's 8.0 teams.
In a tightly-contested 6.0 women's field, it was USTA Oklahoma's Johnson team taking home a championship. It came down to sets won over the Albrecht team from USTA St. Louis. In the 8.0 men's contest, the Cox team out of USTA Heart of America defeated a tough Denne team from USTA Oklahoma. On the women's side, the Pascale/Bahan team from USTA Oklahoma cruised to the championship over the Jacelone team from USTA Heart of America.

USTA Missouri Valley Adult League Section Championships

The USTA Missouri Valley Adult League 40 & Over Section Championships saw some excellent tennis and four teams advance to the USTA Adult League National Championships in October!
The 3.0 women's division was a highly contested, exciting event, with the Snyder team from USTA Heart of America leaving Tulsa with a invite to the National Championships. They edged out the Ladner team out of Oklahoma. They ended the championship match tied at two wins each and the championship was decided by sets won. On the men's side, the Freed/Ray team out of Oklahoma punched their ticket to nationals, finishing the weekend 3-1 in round-robin play.
The 4.0 women's title match could not have been more competitive. The Hollbrook team from Nebraska bested the Tasker team from USTA Oklahoma - with the number of sets won decided the title. The Magann team from USTA Oklahoma won the men's 4.0 championship over the Stroede team from USTA Oklahoma.

August 26-28 - Topeka, Kansas
The USTA Missouri Valley Section Championships for 3.5 and 4.5 40 & Over teams took place at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, Kansas. And it was quite the exciting times for those who took part. On the women's 3.5 side, USTA Iowa's Schoenfelder team took the championships after defeating the USTA Heart of America team - Heurtin. The contest was decided by number of sets after the teams finished the match-up tied at two. For men's 3.5, the Everhart team from Heart of America had an impressive showing in the title match, defeating Nebraska's Green/Dean team.
In the 4.5 division, the Allison/Wyse team was really impressive, finishing the round-robin undefeated to take home the championship. For the men, Nebraska's Betts team took the championship after finishing the round-robin 3-0.

September 10-12 - Omaha, Nebraska
The battle for a spot in the USTA Adult League National Championships culminated in Omaha - and teams also had to battle the extreme heat. Temperatures soared well into the 90s on each day of the USTA Missouri Valley 18 & Over Mixed Section Championships.
In 6.0 action, the Doughty team out of Oklahoma City dropped just two sets en route to a championship - finishing the round robin pool undefeated. In 7.0, the Casey/Thagard team from Oklahoma City finished second in their pool and advanced to the knockout rounds, but came back in the championship match to beat the team who defeated them in pool play. The Javaheri team out of USTA St. Louis and the Casey/Thagard team's championship match came down to third-set tie breaks on all three courts.
In 8.0 play, the Despotovich team from USTA Iowa came out of Pool A strong and defeated the Jones team out of Kansas in championship, 2-1. The Allison/Betts team from USTA Nebraska went undefeated in round robin play in the 9.0 division to punch their ticket to the USTA Adult League National Championships. The USTA Adult League National Championships will take place Oct. 29-31 and Nov. 5-7 in Surprise, Arizona.
